It's hard to beat a homemade blueberry pie -- unless, perhaps, it's made with blueberries you picked fresh from the field. Fortunately, in North Georgia there are numerous such fields to choose from that offer the experience of gathering your own blueberries and other summer produce as well.
Here is a sampling:
CARROLL COUNTY
Taylor Blueberry Farm (blueberries late June through August). 195 Clem Lowell Road, Carrollton. 770-832-6857. Hours: 7 a.m.-sunset Mondays-Saturdays. $4/gallon. Picking and take-home containers provided. Shade and swing.
CHEROKEE COUNTY
Blueberry Hill (blueberries June 21-Aug. 1). 199 Trinity Lane, Free Home (between Canton and Cumming at Ga. 20 and Ga. 372). 770-889-2131. Hours: 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. $2/quart. Bring containers. Berries irrigated. Outhouse.
The Berry Barn (blueberries and blackberries June 30-July 31). 1310 North Lake Drive, Canton. 770-343-9940. Call for appointment. $1.50/pound. Containers provided.
COBB COUNTY
The Hallecks (figs July 8 through August). 90 Stroud Drive S.W., Mableton. 770-948-1921. Hours: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays. $6/gallon; $8/gallon they pick. Bring containers. Varieties include Celeste, Brown Turkey and white figs. Water available.
COWETA COUNTY
Blueberry Hill Farm (blueberries mid-June through August). 2270 Smokey Road, Newnan. 770-251-0843. Hours: Dawn-dusk daily. $5/gallon. Containers provided. Bathroom, picnic area, children's play area.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
Reginald Rogers (blueberries mid-July through August). 3106 Lake Monroe Road, Douglasville. 770-949-2101. $6/gallon or $1/pound. Picking containers and some take-home containers available. Call for availability and hours. Water, picnic tables.
FAYETTE COUNTY
Adams Farm (blackberries, blueberries and raspberries through June). 1486 Ga. 54 West, Fayetteville. 770-461-9395. Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays. $1.60/pound blackberries; call for prices on blueberries and raspberries. Containers provided. Picnic tables, water, outhouse.
Carnahan's Blueberries (unsprayed blueberries July 1-30). 116 Odith Road, off County Line Road, Fayetteville. 770-460-7796. Hours: 8 a.m.-dark Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. $6/gallon, $2/quart. Bring take-home containers.
FLOYD COUNTY

FULTON COUNTY
Brown's Vineyard & Berry Farm (pesticide-free, thornless blackberries through mid-July; muscadines Aug. 20 to frost). 4853 Evans Drive, Union City. 770-964-5304. Hours: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for blackberries; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily for muscadines. Call for availability. $9/gallon blackberries, $11/peck muscadines. Containers provided. GORDON COUNTY

HENRY COUNTY

Little Hope Farm (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, tomatoes, squash, pole beans, corn mid-June to fall). 325 Singley Drive, Locust Grove. 770-957-3786. Hours: dawn-dusk daily; call for availability. 50 cents/pound most vegetables; $1/quart raspberries; $4/gallon blackberries and blueberries. Bring containers.

2007 note: We had severe freeze damage this year and will only have one variety available in mid to late July. Please call for an up date after July 1. When the berries are ready we will be open Saturdays only 7:30 AM to 7 PM. Picking container and plastic bags provided. $12.00 per gallon U-pick only.

WALTON COUNTY
