Garden volunteer Ann Blum has created the popular puppet shows for our annual Insect-ival Family Festival for the past 20 years. Each fun and informative puppet show is now in her new book, as well as interesting facts that support the themes and lessons within the puppet shows. Come hear Ann talk about her new book “Bugs @ Play”, the characters she has inspired, and Garden stories – and pick up a signed copy.

Join the education staff for a day off from school discovering the wonderful world of plants! The day will include a hike through the cultivated garden and trails. Along the way we will play fun environmental and sensory games as we discover interesting facts about plants through hands-on activities and explorations on the Garden grounds.

Medicinal Salves and Lotions

Details:

Discover a variety of recipes for using herbs, essential oils and beeswax to prepare products for health and beauty. Participants will prepare and take home a container of cream, two containers of medicinal salves and a wealth of knowledge to create more creams and salves at home.

Full Moon Hike

Come see the garden come alive at night! Each walk will focus on a different topic such as the moon, constellations, or nocturnal creatures. Bring family and friends of all ages along to enjoy the mysterious world of nature at night! Be prepared to hike up to 2 miles on our wooded trails and in the garden. If you have young children or infants, a backpack carrier is suggested. Meet at the Fountain in front of the Visitor Center.

Linda Chafin, Conservation Botanist, will talk about the making of the book she and Hugh and Carol Nourse have recently completed, the “Field Guide to the Wildflowers of Georgia and Surrounding States.” Due out in 2015, the guide describes more than 1,000 species and features nearly 800 color photographs, most by the Nourses. Linda will talk about “how the sausage gets made” when it comes to writing a field guide. Please make your reservation by Wednesday, November 5 by calling 706-542-9353.

Frederick Law Olmsted is considered to be the father of American landscape architecture. The full-day conference will be held on Friday with presentations by Lucy Lawliss of the National Park Service, Bill Alexander of The Biltmore Estate, Spencer Tunnell of Tunnell and Tunnell in Atlanta, Andrew Khor and more.
