Susan M. Varlamoff will speak to us about Sustainable Gardening. She just wrote Sustainable Gardening for the Southeast, available on Amazon.
Susan is director of the Office of Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia, a certified Georgia Master Gardener in Gwinnett County, and the 2012 recipient of the University of Georgia Sustainability Award. She is the author of The Polluters: A Community Fights Back.

We’ve joined forces with The Homestead Atlanta and The Celtic Gardener, Anne-Marie Anderson, for our crash course in keeping backyard chickens! This class will cover legislation, coop design, breed selection, care and feeding. You will also receive a resource list of local chicken groups, vets, chick and feed sources. The last 30 min of the class is Q&A. Bonus: get to meet and handle one of Anne-Marie’s feathered friends!

Join Véronique Perrot, beekeeper of the Edgewood Garden hives, for an introduction to bees and beekeeping. We will cover the workings of a bee colony, the role of honey bees and native bees, and the basics of beekeeping equipment and paraphernalia. If weather allows, we will look inside one of the Garden’s hives, so come with light-colored long sleeved shirt and long pants. Handouts will be provided. Prerequisite: Intro to Bees and Native Pollinators is suggested, combine these workshops & save!

Laura Hartt, Water Policy Director for Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK), will present a program titled “Tapped Out: The Drying Up of Atlanta”. Her talk examines the causes of the ongoing water crisis in the metro Atlanta region, focusing on the Chattahoochee watershed and offering practical solutions. Ms. Hartt has an undergraduate degree in biology from Cal Poly Pomona and a graduate degree in wildlife ecology from Utah State University. She also holds an environmental law degree.
