Maintaining and Pruning Shrubs and Roses

Details:

Your shrubs and roses need to be prepared for our summer heat and possible lack of rain. They may also need to be pruned, at the right time. This class will teach you how to maintain and prune your shrubs and roses, covering: mulching, weed control, watering, fertilizing, pest control and pruning (where, when and how).

Summer Gardening with Miss Lady Bug

We will harvest spring goodies to take home and as a team, we will pick out summer veggies from our plant sale and put them in the ground. Each child will have the option to decorate a pot and take home a plant as well. Parents may drop off kids ages 6+. Younger children need supervision. We will serve organic apples with Oakhurst Garden honey for snack. You may pre-register of just show up!! Limited space available so signing up is a good idea.

Forsyth Master Gardeners open their private gardens showcasing a variety of their
most interesting gardens that are sun tolerant, prefer shade, drought tolerant,
deer resistant and privacy screening. Expert gardeners will available at each garden location
to answer gardening questions. Day of tour ticket sales will be available at each garden.

This debut garden tour includes 8 destination spots- 7 private gardens plus the Lilburn Community Garden located on Main Street, Lilburn, GA. Our first ‘Yarden’ is the historic Phillips-Nash Farmhouse built in 1851 and covers 6+acres. Another not-to-miss location is our Shady Retreat with an extensive international Orchid Collection. There will be local musicians and artists at various spots, along with floral arranging demonstrations and a Master Gardener onhand to answer questions.

The theme is Cherokee Beauty. Designs will be submitted and judged in five different classes, including a class for water designs. Also featured and judged will be educational displays and over 150 horticultural specimens. Junior gardeners will also be participating this year. Following judging, the Show opens to the public Friday afternoon from 2 pm – 5 pm, and again on Saturday from 10am – 2 pm.
