When it comes to deer, most gardeners just see a headache on hoof. Gwinnett Master Gardener’s Assoc presents Wildlife Biologist and environmental educator Dr. Mike Mengak to discuss ways to discourage and/or co-exist with wild creatures in home gardens and landscapes. Bring a covered dish to share and join us for dinner at 6:30, or just come for the program beginning promptly at 7 p.m.

The free Fayette Master Gardener Association lecture features Joe Washington, original host of HGTV “Groundbreakers” talking about “ADAPTIVE GARDENING”.

Joe will talk about how – as we grow older – we can adapt our gardening. He will share information from experts in horticulture therapy and landscaping and show us the “one stop shop” he has developed to keep gardening in our “can-do list”.

Many of the plants that are now considered “weeds” were once valuable sources of food and medicine. They are still edible, nutritious, delicious when properly prepared — and free! In this program, we will take a look at some of these forgotten foods, including dandelions, chickweed, poke salad, violets, and more.

Deb Duchon, D.Sc., MA, is an anthropologist with specialties in ethnobotany, nutrition. She is best known for her work on the popular show, Good Eats on the Food Network.
