Date: 05 August 2012
Time: 9:00am -4:30pm
Location: The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, 2450 South Milledge Avenue, Athens, GA 30605
Two local non-profit organizations, the Oconee River Land Trust and the Athens Land Trust, are partnering with the State Botanical Garden to present Spirit of the Land, an art exhibition and sale that celebrates the beauty of land and supports its protection. Dr. Paul A. Manoguerra, chief curator and curator of American art, Georgia Museum of Art, will curate the exhibit. Works in this exhibition will find inspiration in our state’s natural wonders and landscapes. The small-scale images in the display will permit viewers to thoughtfully and intimately experience the Georgia landscape. Hans Hoffman once stated, “A small picture format may be much more living, much more leavening, stirring, awakening than square yards of wall space.” Proceeds from the sale of artwork will support the artists and the work of the Land Trust Organizations. Both the Oconee RiverLand Trust and the Athens Land Trust work with private landowners to protect thousands of Georgia acres including natural forests, fields, wetlands, riparian buffers, working forests and agricultural land. The Athens Land Trust also provides affordable housing for more than 300 people, and creates community gardens. The show and sale runs through September 9th in the Visitor Center Gallery.
