Anole (and snake) – In Camellia
Q: Over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed up to six of these little green anole lizards in my camellia and holly bushes. About dusk, they crawl up the stem and find a leaf and sleep throughout the night, leaving in the morning when it starts getting light. This evening, I discovered a snake in an adjacent camellia bush. He isn’t after my little lizard buddies, is he?
A: My friend Jim Rodgers at Nearly Native Nursery says this is pretty typical of lizards to curl up against foliage and stems for the night.
The snake appears to be a baby rat snake. Being a cold blooded creature, he could possibly want to eat the lizards but he probably will not do so during the cool of the evening.
