Balloon Cotton Bush – Identification

Q: I found an odd bush in my back yard. It has light green hairy seed pods.

Any idea what it might be?

A: My colleague Winston Eason gets the identification prize.

He says it is a balloon cotton bush, Asclepias physocarpa. It is a member of the milkweed family.

For reasons I won’t go into, it is also called hairy balls and family jewels bush.
