Q: I planted a Natchez crape myrtle 10 days ago (late October) and now the leaves are starting to look strange. Can you help me?
A: This is really interesting!
My bet is that it is cold (or chilling) damage. Temperatures have fluctuated between 65 and 40 degrees (with clear nights) for the past week.
I can’t find any pictures online that confirm my guess. If the plants were healthy when installed, then they should drop their leaves for the winter and come out nicely next spring.
Make a note to contact me in May and confirm that they did okay.
