Daffodils – Moving in Early Spring

Q: Can I move daffodil bulbs now? I want to plant some shrubs in a place where daffodil foliage is already an inch tall.

A: If you are careful, the bulbs can be moved without harm. The best tool to use is a spading fork because the teeth are less likely to slice the bulbs like a shovel would. Try to dig an entire clump of bulbs and soil rather than unearthing individual plants. You can transplant the clump of bulbs to another sunny bed and they won=t even realize they have been moved.
