Q: I’m confused about whether or not to store dahlias for the winter. Will they make it through an Atlanta winter or should I dig them up?
A: I’ve had them freeze in winter several times so I recommend that you dig and store them. In contrast, I’ve observed a big clump of them in front of a house a mile away from me that have NEVER been dug and have done just fine for two years. Just to be safe, dig your dahlias now, clip off the stems, dust the cuts on the tubers with garden sulfur and store in a box in a cool spot until planting time next May.
