Flower Bed – Armadillo Damage

Q: I planted some dwarf mondo grass 2 months ago. After about 3 weeks I found it completely uprooted. I replanted it and 3 weeks later it happened again. It doesn’t appear that any of the roots or leaves are eaten.

A: I think it was an armadillo. One can plow up a newly planted area quickly overnight.

I think I see “lines” where the creature used his nose to root through the soft soil. They are looking for grubs or earthworms in the dirt underneath your plants.

Consider stretching chicken wire over the area for a little while until the plants are rooted completely.
