Q: I found this small tree growing in Floyd County not too far from Barnsley Gardens. It was growing in an area close to a creek. The tree was small 8+- feet with rough gray bark. The flowers were very fragrant, you could smell them about 30 feet away. The flower was a pale pink and also seemed to be in clusters. Any ideas?
A: Landscape architect Bruce Holliday www.landscapeplansplus.com Says “The small spines on the stem lead me to think crabapple. Some are more fragrant that others and there is a wide variety of flower colors and tree shapes.”
