Garden Books – for Children

Q: I need a list of ten books on gardening for children in elementary school. I’m trying to obtain a grant from the Master Gardeners Association to purchase gardening books for our Mountain Regional Library.

A: I polled my team of Master Gardener assistants and they offered these suggestions:

How Groundhog’s Garden Grew by Lynne Cherry
A Gardener’s Alphabet by Mary Azarian
A Farmer’s Alphabet by Mary Azarian
Sunflower Houses by Sharon Lovejoy
Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots by Sharon Lovejoy
The Golden Guides: various field guides to plants, insects, mammals, etc.
Peterson’s First Guides: similar to Golden Guides
Good Bugs For Your Garden by Allison Mia Starcher
Nature Crafts for Kids by Gwen Diehn & Terry Krautwurst
Gardening Wizardry for Kids by L. Patricia Kite
My Mother Talks to Trees by Doris Gove
Windowsill Gardening: Gardening Projects for Kids by Klutz books
The Great Seed Mystery by Peggy Henry

You have a great idea – good luck on the grant application!
