Hydrangea – Unexpected Green Flowers

Q: What is going on with my hydrangeas? Some are beautifully purple & pink, others are green. They get watered at 6:00 a.m. before work, have about 5 hours of daily sun, liquid fertilizer once a month.

A: I think they may be growing a little too vigorously this summer. We’ve had perfect conditions and the fertilizer might have caused the flower buds to open before they were ready.

I’d treat them normally and hope for better color next year.
