Q: I heard you talk about Muhly grass on your radio show on Saturday. There are several varieties available. Do you prefer any of these best or will they all do okay in north Atlanta?
A: Habersham Gardens says they have observed great success with Gulf Muhly, ^Muhlenbergia capillaris^, in Atlanta. It has a four-foot tall cloud of airy pink seedheads every fall. Lindheimer=s Muhly, ^Muhlenbergia lindheimeri^, has blue-green leaves topped with silvery plumes in fall. Muhly grass needs very good drainage. Add lots of gritty general purpose sand to the spot where you plant it. Like most grasses, muhly prefers full sun.
