Q: I read about the oak moth that eats oak leaves and I wondered if that’s what’s going on with my two trees. They are dropping clumps of leaves like crazy. I’d love to get back to gardening instead of picking leaves out of shrubs and flowers!
A: It’s nothing to worry about. The same thing happens to crapemyrtles.
Simply put, the oak is discarding weakly attached twigs at the ends of branches.
The good news is that this reduces the acorn crop, so you won’t be as much occupied with grubbing them and their seedlings out of your beds.
