Slime Mold – In Mulch
Q: This fungus keeps popping up in my beds. It occurred once last year and three times this year. I have a feeling it has to do with the mulch. Last year’s mulch was bought in one bulk load and this year’s was bagged mulch.
A: It’s just one of the thousands of species of slime mold. They decompose organic matter when it’s wet. Other than being weird looking, they don’t harm anything. You can spray with fungicide or just wash them away.
