Termites – In Dead Stump

Q: I prepared to remove a stump in my parent’s backyard and realized that it has termites. I want to remove and grind the stump; however, I’m not sure if we need to treat the termites first. Her house is termite treated and is 250’ from the stump.

A: Termites are perfectly normal in stumps and dead limbs in your landscape. As long as the house is properly protected from termites, there is no need to poison the insects.
