Bats – Droppings on Siding

Q: My brother has a small cinder-block cabin in the Virginia mountains. There are two separate spatter marks just below the roof. The spatters appear on two sides of the cabin, and there are maybe 6 – 7 spatters on each side as well.

A: Easy to identify….there are bats roosting under the edge of the siding, hidden from view. Their droppings, called “guano” by old farmers, is famously sticky and stinky.

Spray water up there until you are sure all are gone then seal with caulk or rolled screen wire.
