Azalea and Rhododendron Diseases

When an azalea or rhododendron just "up and dies" on you, it's hard to figure out why.

Fortunately, the good folks at Pennsylvania State have gathered a compendium of diseases these shrubs get.

In my experience, most azalea/rhododendron problems are caused by them growing in clay soil. They are woodland plants..... and they demand highly enriched, fast-draining soil.

Phytophthora root rot seems to be the most common problem. See the Penn. State publication for a list of resistant and susceptible azalea cultivars.

Time for the first application of fertilizer on fescue grass. This cool season turf needs fertilizer in September, November, February and April.
