Heuchera – Rabbit Damage

Q: I planted these heucheras a month ago and they had big beautiful leaves. When I went out this afternoon, the leaves are all chewed off. Some small leaves are left, but most of the stems are just chopped off about two inches from the ground. The stems are pretty much cut straight across, as if with a knife.

A: These are excellent pictures!

I say a rabbit made a meal of your plants. Their incisors clip stems sharply, unlike deer nibbles, which leave a jagged cut.

If you can prevent further damage, try making the plant leaves taste bad with systemic capsaicin.
