Sod – Too Late to Put Down?

Q: Is it too late to put down sod before it starts turning cooler?

A: Turf expert Clint Waltz says you can do it ^IF^ you properly prepare beforehand. Till the soil at least six inches deep so roots can grow readily. Insist on fresh sod that has been harvested no more than 48 hours before you lay it. Roll the sod immediately to get good root-soil contact. Plan to water it throughout the winter, particularly on sunny, breezy December and January days. If you can do all that, you can lay sod now.
