Q: I have just moved here from Philadelphia. My new lawn is bermudagrass sod and there are bare patches in it. Can I overseed with bermudagrass seed?
A: It’s not a good idea to overseed sodded bermudagrass with bermudagrass seed. Most bermudagrass seed varieties have a different color and texture than hybrid bermudagrass sod. Sodded bermudagrass spreads aggressively if it is managed correctly. This usually eliminates the need to overseed. In light of the drought, leave your lawn alone for winter and begin fertilizing when it is 50% green in spring.
