Fescue- Liming
Q: Does fescue automatically have to be limed because it’s fescue? My brother doesn’t lime his fescue because he doesn’t have pine trees. He says pine needles are acidic and cause fescue to require liming.
A: The only reason to lime fescue is if the soil pH is lower than 5.5. Soil pH depends on a lot of things: soil components (clay, loam, sand), amount of fertilizer recently applied, amount of rainfall, etc. Pine needles do not lower soil pH any more than the leaves of other trees.
