Regular flower but something has started to grow out of the center. One picture is the group the other a close up of the question.

    This is a purple cone flower. A perennial, beautiful,long-lived, blooming flower and it’s great for arrangements!

    It will die back in the winter. If you want more of these plants, let the seed heads ripen, and fall to the ground; otherwise clip off the spent bloom heads.
