This popped up in my perennial flower bed. I left it to grow as I had a feeling it could be a volunteer of sorts… I thought it might be Mallow, but the leaves come up from a single location below the soil, rather than along a main stem.

Thanks Stone! I feel like I’ve just won a mini-lottery – I believe there are three that have sprung up in this bed. If you’re right, this must be their non-blooming year. I look forward to seeing what kind of flowers they produce in year 2.
