It looks like clematis to me as well – neighbor down the street from me here in Kansas has it growing on three different areas of his garden. It’s a climbing vine and big flowers, 3-5″ across. They come in a variety of flower colors but around here I usually see shades of purple or orchid/mauve/pinks… Several in my local town have it trained up their mailboxes.
