I have never seen Nanking cherry grow this far south. Let me know how it does.

My condolence for the passing of your Dad. Maybe Nanking Cherry (Prunus tomentosa)? Check it out and see if you have a match. According to sources Nanking Cherry is edible. Please check with the local Agriculture Extension Service for a confirmed ID before consuming. Best wishes! https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/trees/handbook/th-3-11.pdf
