They look like service berries on a Service Berry tree, fruits about 1/3-1/2 in. in diameter on a small (8-15 ft. tree), ripening in late spring. If so, they are edible by humans and birds; lightly sweet and delicious. Keep well for about 1 week from picking in refrigerator.

Looks like one of the many crab apples. If they are not wormy they would make good jelly (but a lot of work)
