Notes:

This photo is a continuation of my previous submission “Large-Leafed Tree” (Need ID help) from Oct 5, 2010. I really have no reason for posting this photo other than for the shock factor. :) It shows my foot stepping on the leaf, and I’m wearing a size 8 women’s boot. It had already fallen off the tree, which I’m almost certain is a red mulberry, Morus rubra. Some people who tried to help me ID it thought it was a basswood, some said mulberry… Because it is so sandpapery and rough, I think it is a mulberry, and it just has the gist of a mulberry, but in the spring and summer hopefully it will be easier to ID for sure. Anyway, all the leaves on this particular tree are ginormous like this…just had to share. It’s growing in a shady ravine, sticking out of the side of a stream bank, growing almost horizontally out of the ground.

Wow, that is huge…perhaps it’s growing over some radioactive waste? LOL. I also still think it’s red mulberry.
