Fragrant seed pod needs ID

Found this seed pod on the ground last week (Thanksgiving), not sure what type of plant it came from and have no other descriptive information.

When I opened it up it smelled very fragrant, quite like a magnolia but is clearly very undeveloped. Is it a ficus that just never developed? Seems a little late for figs.

    Sure is a fig, Ficus carica. Are leaves large and simply lobed with stiff velcro-like undersides? Is there latex in the leaves or branches?
    Sometimes the fruit just keep hanging on after its season, which is typically later than most other fruits.
