In Native Trees of Georgia this tree looks similar to a sugarberry, but we are not sure. Fruit looks like a blueberry but has a seed.

This looks like what I would expect a hawthorn to look in August. Check to see if any 1 inch thornes are just below the branches. Crushing a fruit, does it smell just like an apple? If so, maybe its a wild hawthorne
