Help with Tree ID

« Back to Name that Plant

Date Photo Taken: May '11
Location: Kennesaw Mountain Trail, Marietta, GA
Posted By: waynereeves

Notes:

This tree has a leaf that looks a little bit like a Beech leaf, but the margins are without teeth. The leaf is a little wider towards the end. The trunk is a lighter color with rough, deeply furrowed vertical bark.

Thanks for your help!

I have this same tree in my front yard and have been unable to identify it. If you find out what it is please e mail me. Thank you.

    Alan,
Someone commented to me that it’s a Black Tupelo. I looked it up in a couple of my tree I.D. books and have come to agree.
