For a school project, we had to take pictures of plants and identify and describe them. This was found in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I can’t see clearly of the plant’s main stem and with out flowers to help narrow down. I could only guess and suggest you check into the Asteraceae family. Perhaps the genus of goldenrod (Solidago)? Species grow in Ann Arbor county include S.
