These are peonies. I read that they in the rose family. They smell wonderful. They bloom in early spring. There are many varieties. I have a President Lincoln peony that is just awesome in bloom. Google it and you will see many photos of this awesome redish/purple beauty.

I was doing a search to see if these are poisonous to cats because I cut some to bring indoors. Turns out, they are poisonous. Thank you for this.
