We received this as a gift – it is in a very small container and is approximately 4.5 inches tall not including the roots. It almost looks like a gardenia and we are not certain if we should plant in the ground or just re-pot into a larger container. thank you

This looks to be a Coral Berry or Ardisia. It’s a popular house plant and is not hardy enough to survive the winters in Georgia, even south or central GA. Apparently in Florida it has become a pest plant, hence this: http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/node/42
