Notes:

Hello, We have a problem with a vine that has chocked out the grasses and bushed that we had in our flower garden. Last Fall we pulled everything out to start fresh this year. However the vine that caused the problems is back. I have Google vines to no avail. Could some one possible help is ID the vine that my wife and I have dubbed “The Vine from Hades”? Also ways to eradicate it would be great. Thank you!

You’re welcome! Wow, 20 plus more in such short time, that is horrifying. In my garden various wild, prolific, insidious plants all have the same name;”I’ll be back!”. It is a struggle to keep these nasty plants/weeds in check.

Thanks Laura! Its a start. We have not ever seen flowers, fruits or seed pods on our Vine From Hades. It now has 20 plus shoots coming up. When I posted the picture it was 5. I have jokingly suggested napalm. The wife said no.

This might be a species of swallowworts (Dog strangling vine) in the genus (Cynanchum). The black swallowwort (Cynanchum louiseae) is the noxious invasive species in the northeastern of US. Without flowers, fruits, and seedpods it is hard to be certain. Whatever your vine is, you gave it the right name;ÒThe Vine from HadesÓ. Link below will help to eradicate any pesky plants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynanchum_louiseae
