I noticed a few days ago that 3 of my 5 Japanese maples are losing leaves focally in some areas while looking okay in other areas on the same tree. I also noticed these spots that at first I thought were “normal” bark changes, but I started to wonder. Is this scale insect damage? Each of these tiny spots is less than 1 mm in diameter. If it is, how best to treat since this is September?
