Notes:

I just moved into this house with this Japanese Maple in the front. It is about 4 ft high and 8 ft in diameter. The top is completely flat – I donÕt know if the previous homeowner trimmed it this way or something else happened (disease, weather, etc). Can this tree be returned to proper height?

    I think they pruned it to prevent it blocking the window. You could continue pruning occasionally if needed. The best time to do this kind of pruning is winter when you can see the limb structure easily.
