Notes:
this plant showed up when repotting some outdoor flowers. There were three about 2 – 3 “s and now are 12 – 15 “s in about 6 weeeks. Look nice wonder if it’s a weed or something that could be border? Dark red stalk and red veins in green leaves.

looks like Amaranth to me – it will develop a plum-like flower.

Will the Amaranth spread or does it remain one stalk plant?

definitely looks like an amaranth…! all agree?! oh, when it blooms, cut the stalk, then you’ll get baby shoots off to sides…i’ve had them around 8 feet tall! hardy! beautiful in fall arrangements.

Thanks for the info. Where are these best planted. per my original post somehow a couple little sprouts were in a pot with other plants. Replanted and they are growing like crazy and need to move to a permanent location.

I plant all amaranth in the full sun. Do some research on the Amaranth family as you will see the grain is grown in the poorest of countries for food source. I use different varieties for floral design…it’ll be a great “mystery plant” to watch…ml
