Notes:

Trees are at least 6 years old, for several years they have been very late getting their leaves. One tree has some leave and the other has a few buds on it. Most other trees that line the street are full of leaves, a few other trees on the street do the same thing (no leaves) Leaves typically don’t change color, just brown and fall off. Bark seemed to peel or fall off last year, so the trunk is mostly slick. Could it be iron? Any thoughts or suggestions? THANKS in advance!!!!

  1. Walter Reeves The Georgia Gardener says:

Your tree has the same affliction as Monty Python’s parrot:

‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies!’Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig!’E's kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!!

In other words, your tree is dead (or soon will be).

My bet is that it was planted incorrectly to begin with. see http://www.walterreeves.com/gardening-q-and-a/maple-planted-too-deep/
