Grayish bright green field weed found in an open area 15 minutes east of Dallas, Texas.
It is wooly croton, also known as goat weed. Doves flock to seeds in fall.
The more that I learn about the croton plants… The more that I like them.
I discovered croton capitatus growing on the edge of one of my gardens in town a few years ago…. And transplanted some of it to my garden for observation.
This year… I noticed caterpillars on the original patch… Did a bit of research….
Very cool looking butterfly!
There’s supposed to be 30 or so species of croton / doveweed in your area….
Considered a valuable wildlife plant… So… I hope that you discover an appreciation for this neat family of plants…
