Actually, looking a few bushes of mountain laurel currently in blossom, they are totally white once fully opened. Apart from the color, though, the specimen posted looks just like one.

I agree with Stone, but the mountain laurel blossoms I’m familiar with that grow wild in Georgia have a pink interior, not the purple this one seems to have.
