Mystery plant in my yard

Notes:

What is the plant on the left? It flowered briefly earlier this year, and had a few bright red, olive-sized berries. It looks like it would root easily, as a branch was already taking root before I cut it off.

The plant on the left is a Japanese Aucuba (Aucuba japonica). There are several varieties of Aucuba that are commonly seen. It is hard to see exactly in your photo, but the leaves appear to have some gold color in them. It might a Golddust Aucuba.

The photo is a tad fuzzy, but it looks like Variegated Aucuba. It has the red berries you mentioned and it is easy to ‘ground layer’ to propagate more of them.
