Notes:

Woody shrub or small tree, about 8-9 feet tall, dense foliage, veined leaves. Flowers are white, 5 petals in a single row, yellow mass in center. As you can see it has spent blooms, current blooms, and buds all at the same time. Flowers are 1.5 to 1.75″ diameter. I didnt notice a scent near the bush, but I didnt directly smell a bloom either. It is growing as a foundation plant on the UNC campus.

    Looks like one of the Stewartia. Sorry I am not able to certain of its ID. There are at least 2o species in this genus.
