We purchased Yellow crookneck squash plants at grocery store. The grandchildren were also helping. So far we have some yellow squash and this mystery squash/pumpkin. Can you helP? Thank you.

    we cooked yellow squash and threw away the seeds in the dumpster. two weeks later we have a huge vine growing along the back wall of our house with the same strange pumpkin/squash on it. we have also been stumped. send me an email address and ill send you pictures. if you find out what it is let me know!!!

    “Mystery Squash” was a delightful surprise. I took the said round green pumpkin shaped whatever to Chris, Produce Manager, HF Publix. He identified it as a “Buttercup Squash”. In the fall it would have the more familiar dark green and yellow markings. So I brought it back home, sliced in two and steamed it with butter and brown sugar in center. It was delicious.
