Notes:
This tree is a volunteer that is growing along my fence line and is very fast growing. I cut it down some four years ago, but now it about 20’ tall. It had long light purple flowers in the spring that have since turned into sticky nut-like clusters. The leaves are about seven inches across and about eight inches across.
I would appreciate any help in identification. Any thoughts? Thanks

Do you have a wood carving friend? I found this rather amusing post on Walter’s Q & A page regarding the much bantered about Royal Pain in the Paulownia Tree. http://www.walterreeves.com/gardening-q-and-a/royal-paulownia-empress-tree-carving/

Looks like a cottonwood tree…the seed pods will burst open when mature and look like cotton.
