We’re not really sure what this thing is. We’ve re potted it a few times and now it’s about 3 or 4 feet tall and about 2 or 3 feet across.
The needles are short and stiff and the stem is square. That’s really all we know about it.

Looks like a tree we used to call a Norway Spruce when I was in college. They were sold as small Christmas trees for about 5.00 back then, and we called them the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. This might be a weeping one or is just stressed.
