‘@deadbear Granted centipede is slow but 50 years is plenty of time for it to become introduced into any sunny lawn area! This time of year centipede will produce a reddish seed head rather quickly. Without frequent mowing it becomes pretty noticeable in the lawn area. An old saying regarding centipede establishment when seeded on bare ground is, it sleeps the first year, creeps the second year and leaps the third year. I would guess there is a lot of centipede in low maintenance areas around lake Allatoona and it has finally crept up on you!
